What is an EMI?
EMI stands for Equated Monthly Instalment — the fixed amount you pay every month to repay a loan, such as a car loan, home loan or personal loan. Each payment covers part of the interest and part of the original amount (the principal).
How this EMI calculator works
Enter the loan amount, the yearly interest rate and the loan period. The tool uses the standard formula EMI = P × r × (1 + r)n ÷ ((1 + r)n − 1), where P is the loan amount, r is the monthly interest rate and n is the number of months. It also shows the total interest you will pay over the full term.
Using the result wisely
- Try a shorter period: the EMI goes up, but the total interest usually drops a lot.
- Compare offers from different banks using the same amount and period.
- Keep your total EMIs at a comfortable share of your monthly income.
Real loans can include processing fees, insurance or variable rates, so treat this as an estimate and confirm final figures with your lender.
